The Birth of the Brand

Vanessa Hahusseau, the founder of Le Grand Siècle, comes from a background of literacy, curiosity and an affinity for natural beauty. She maintained her intense interest in history, literature and art while graduating in L’Institut d’Etudes Politiques, and developing her strong affinity for decorative arts.

Le Grand Siècle reproduces wallpapers from the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Our collections of panoramic wallpapers and decorative wallpapers belong to the French History and promote French decorative arts. Dating back from the 18th and 19th centuries, our collection indeed crossed the ages and have traveled from the Marie-Antoinette boudoir all the way to the Empress Eugénie's boudoir, passing through the living room of the Maison Vauquer of "Père Goriot" in Balzac!

Bringing these paper frescoes back to life required an important digital restoration work that occupied our workshop for many months. They are luxury wallpapers indeed, and were treated as real works of art. They were designed and manufactured by the renowned manufacturers of the time: Jacquemart and Bénard, Réveillon, Dufour, Desfossé & Karth Manufactures... all of which appeared alongside the famous Zuber factory, the last factory still in business today that uses the engraved wood boards techniques of the time.

These historical wallpapers are very graphic in nature and offer a wide variety of styles. Our high-quality panoramic wallpapers depict landscapes, trees, flowers, birds (beautiful peacocks, etc.), architectural elements, forests, scenes of literature and mythology…

Panoramic wallpapers, with their jungle or tropical themes, or just black and white (called then "grisaille" or "monochrome") evoke the soothing nature in the manner of a trompe-l'oeil. For their part, decorative wallpapers aim at magnifying walls by reproducing giant flowers, trees, birds, chinoiseries and geometric patterns of extreme modernity. Their vivid colors and sumptuous patterns will contribute to making your interior design unique and typical.

Both wallpaper types are perfectly suited to reception rooms such as the dining room or the living room and will give the room a marvelous, dramatic character. Hung in a bedroom, an office, a patio or in a hall, they will amaze by their presence and their identity. These luxurious historical wallpapers and panoramic wallpapers can be printed to custom dimensions.
