Manufacture Desfossé & Karth
Created in 1875 by the Desfossé & Karth manufacture, this decorative wallpaper displays blooming branches and multicolored birds. Originally, it was printed in more than 20 colors on engraved wooden-blocks, on joined together paper rolls, the background of which had been hand brushed.
To revive this lovely wallpaper and bring it up to date, our workgroup has carried out a meticulous digital restoration.
Be careful! This design is not connectable. Several decors of 120cm wide cannot be hung side by side: the connections will not match.

Founded in 1851, the Manufacture Jules Desfossé is one of the most important in France and Europe. In 1853, after Jules Desfossé had joined with Hippolyte Karth, the Manufacture was named Desfossé and Karth. It distinguishes itself by a purchase policy of printing wood-blocks and a close collaboration with the artists of the time. Firmly rooted in the Second Empire, and considered as the best, this Manufacture offers wall papers with themes in the taste of time, though sometimes nearly decadent.
The 18th and 19th centuries had a great liking for animal design on wallpapers. Domestic animals, such as dogs, sheep, goats, horses, cows; farmyard animals : cocks, hens, chicks; wild animals too : stags, ducks or – as displayed on this Spring wallpaper - birds and insects.
Because of the many details involved and the numerous colors needed, wallpapers with birds and insects used to be top-of-the-range.
Hanging our wallpapers is done in 3 stages: the preparation of the wall, its pasting, then the hanging. Our strips are hung edge to edge and from left to right in the order indicated on the assembly plan supplied with the rolls. To find out more, consult our Hanging instructions page.
